Tales of the Trees 2017 - Part Four (and last) The Ninth Christmas Tree Festival at St Faith's Son et Lumiere The final sequence of pictures recording the events from the arrival of the Christmas Trees to their final dismantling and removal. This page records the action from Thursday to Sunday 7th to 10th December. The Prayer Tree was a familiar and much-used feature of the week; Fr John singing to his guitar a welcome innovation. The gala concert on the Friday evening saw the return of the Wayfarers close harmony singers and local mezzo soprano Danielle Louise Thomas. Both had graced our platform in previous years, but never together, and they provided an unforgettable evening of song, separately and, finally, together. By now the end was drawing close. On Saturday afternoon Fr John and Gareth saw to the drawing of no fewer than 40 winners of prizes in the grand raffle. The Festival was over, but the trees stayed up and lit for Sunday morning's Parade and Toy Service, where there was a splendid accumulation of toys brought up to be distributed to the needy children of our area. There are pictures of the Parade on our facebook page, courtesy of Jackie Williams By the end of the afternoon the trees were gone, the lights were finally out, the cleaners and dismantlers got to work and the bare trees, their work done, were carted off stage. And it was all over: another success story for one of our biggest annual efforts of mission to the community and support for so many good causes. Thanks to all who made it possible: they know who they are. Their reward, as a previous incumbent used to say, will doubtless come in heaven - meanwhile there is always 2018's Christmas Tree Festival to look forward to... (runs for cover...!) |
