The Church Choir

St.Faith's has always been justifiably proud of its fine choral tradition. On Sundays the Choir ably fulfils its role in leading congregational singing and performing a wide variety of music to enhance the liturgy of The Parish Sung Eucharist. In addition, they sing at weekday High Masses on Feast Days and at various other choral services and concerts during the year.

The Choir has performed significant choral works in recent years in Liverpools  two Cathedrals, Wakefield Cathedral and St.George's Chapel, Windsor. These have included Langlais' Messe Solonelle, Vierne's Messe Solonelle, Mozart's Coronation Mass, Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D, and Haydn's “Little Organ” and “St. Nicholas” Masses. During the next few months, the choir will be singing: Messe de Requiem by Jehan Alain; Bach Cantata no. 10 (Meine Seel erhebt den Herren) - with orchestra; Byrd 4- part Mass - plus many other fine choral works under the direction of Sam Austin, recently appointed Director of Music.

The choir is currently recruiting new members. Sam Austin writes:

• 'Vacancies in the choir are filling up fast. Ability to sight-read is not a prerequisite but would be a distinct advantage. We're looking for singers to join the choir, and also for those unable to commit to joining the choir full-time, but who would be willing to deputise on an occasional basis.

• I would be pleased to hear from any orchestral players willing to play at St Faith's when the need arises, e.g. for Bach's Cantata No. 10 and future works. Contact me without obligation on 07921 840616 or email stfaithschoir@googlemail.com

• St Faith's church choir is mixed 4-part. We sing a motet every Sunday and have a choral mass once a month. We often tackle larger works both in and out of liturgical context. Choir practice is on Fridays from 7.15 to 8.30 pm, and rehearsal for the Sunday Sung Eucharist is at 10.30 am.
  

• There will be an open rehearsal on Friday 28th November, 2008 (7.30 - 9.00 pm) singing through some forthcoming works (the Bach cantata, the Byrd and Christmas music), with brefreshments and entertainment. All are welcomme - please contact me for more details.'
