A full church awaits the arrival of the High Mass sanctuary party.
Many old friends, as well as colleagues from
Merchant Taylors’ School, Crosby, where Dennis is Head of R.E.,
joined the congregation.

Server Geoff Moss is the ‘serious swinger’ leading in the procession at the start of the High Mass

The following evening saw a recital in Dennis’s honour on the two organs
at St Mary’s, given by Fr Neil Kelley and St Faith’s musical director
Ged Callacher, seen here in festive attire.

Members of the audience entered into the spirit of things
in the second half, which consisted of patriotic numbers with a
‘Last Night of the Proms’ flavour.

Fr Dennis was presented with an icon of Our Lord at the end of the 11.00 service at St Faith’s on Sunday morning.

At a garden party lunch on the Sunday afternoon, Dennis sees the joke with Bill Tudhope, (l.) sub-deacon at the Friday High Mass and Fr Charles Billington, an earlier vicar of St Faith’s. The food has been eaten (with more than a little help from the guest of honour!) but the beer is still flowing.

The three days of celebration were rounded off at a special Men’s Group meeting that evening. No pictures exist of this gathering, but it was almost certainly the usual profound theological discussion.
