First Holy Communions
in the United Benefice

A while ago now, following lengthy debate and a unanimous vote, our PCC decided
to ask the Bishop of Liverpool for his permission to admit children to Holy Communion prior to Confirmation.
This move was widely debated in our Diocese, along with many others, and the Diocesan Synod gave its overwhelming approval.
We were delighted that the Bishop of Liverpool said yes and a number of children were admitted to Holy Communion
on Easter Day last year, and even more on the Second Sunday of Advent this year (in both our parishes)
so we joined the ever increasing number of parishes throughout the Diocese who have moved in this direction.
The children admitted had all completed a six-week preparation course led by Fr. Neil and Revd Denise.

If we believe the Eucharist not only to be at the heart of our worshipping life, but also the ‘family’ meal of the
Christian Community, then it naturally follows that we would want to include all ages at that Feast.
After all, are there really families in the parish where a place at the meal table is denied to children on Christmas Day?
I sincerely hope not. St. Faith’s is not a place where the full inclusion of young people at the Lord’s Table is denied either!
‘Though we are many, we are one body, for we all share in one bread.’

Our thanks to the various proud parents who captured the day's happy events.
