Ready for Easter: the Paschal candle
and the sanctuary adorned for the great season
The Easter
Gallery 2008
A pictorial record of
three colourful and moving services at Saint Faith's.
Just before the Easter Vigil service
starts, the New Fire is lit and servers stand ready with the Paschal
Candle
The celebrant prepares the candle for
its slow procession into the darkened church
Later in the service, the renewal of
baptismal vows and a baptism take place
An unofficial part of the celebratory
liturgy: the release of a stream of blessed bubbles
After the imbibing of festive bubbles
of a different kind, we move to the porch to await the fireworks
To the puzzlement of passers-by,
fireworks ascend into the night sky and blaze on the vicarage lawn
On Easter morning, communicants
make their way to the nave altar while the choir sings an Easter anthem
Some of the Junior Church children
show off their own appropriately-sized Easter Garden
At the end of the service, Fred and
Liz celebrate 55 years of marriage with a blessing from Fr Neil
The crucifer leads the procession out
past a full church as the service ends
Then, in the Garden of Remebrance,
there follows the burial of parishioner Jenny Kemp's ashes
Awaiting the entry of the sanctuary
party before that evening's Festal Evensong service
The choir sings and the High Altar is
censed during the service
Finally, the thurifer heads
out at the very end of the Easter Day
celebrations
