St Chad`s College in Durham is patron of the Living of Saint
Faith's.
The parish of Saint Faith`s was carved from the existing parishes of
St.
Mary's, St. Luke's and St. John's; at the time of its construction the
church stood in a largely rural area with little housing but that was
to
change during the first decade of the 20th century. Because the parish
was formed from land originally covered by existing parishes the church
did not have its own Vicar until the incumbents of these
parishes
all retired. T.H. Baxter, H.B. Bentley-Smith and John Brierley, the
first
three incumbents, were not actually vicars of St. Faith`s; as the
Priest-in-Charge
they were known technically as a Perpetual Curates.
