Saturday, March 18th was a red letter
day for Cynthia Margaret Johnson. That afternoon, at 3.00 p.m. in
Liverpool Cathedral, she, along with 19 other candidates was presented
and licensed by Bishop James Jones as Reader in the United Benefice of
Saint Faith, Great Crosby and Saint Mary the Virgin, Waterloo Park.
Members of both churches and their clergy were among the vast
congregation in a cold cathedral for this weighty and lengthy service.
Not long after, it was very good to be home in St Mary's warm and
welcoming hall for a lavish spread, the cutting of a celebratory
cake and assorted presentations.
The process was complete when, at the services the following morning,
Cynthia, draped in her new blue scarf, was formally welcomed by her two
congregations and preached to them both.
Our pictures show Cynthia in the cathedral, with her husband on the way
into St Mary's, tucking in gratefully to the fine food on offer,
clutching her flowers, cutting her cake, and finally in front of the
nave altar at St Faith's, being warmly welcomed by the church,
alongside Fr Neil and Churchwarden Miriam Jones.
